Ichigo's overall abilities are great enough that he can fight on the level of an elite shinigami captain. According to Aizen and Urahara, Ichigo's most astounding ability is his growth rate: he grasps the basic control of advanced techniques in days where it should take weeks or even years. For example, he masters flash steps in less than three days while training with Yoruichi, done simultaneously with his acquiring of bankai. Also, because of his power level, he has been able to use high level shinigami techniqes early, such as 'Spirit Threads', which Rukia says only top level shinigami can use.
